Inspired by a discovery in 2016 that humans can revive exhausted bees using sugar solution, this creation came about from the pondering that followed, wondering how to carry sugar solution in an efficient way when out and about. Prototype bee cards were distributed in 2018 and in April 2019 the card was launched with a crowdfunding campaign which raised £27,000.
The Bee Saviour Card places three tiny stores of sugar solution in your wallet or purse to revive exhausted bees you may come across when out and about. This product is inspiring people around the globe to become active bee saviour citizens and feel more connected to their local neighbourhood bee populations.

These new Bee Cards for 2022 are particularly special, as they are handmade in our Norfolk workshop out of local waste plastic, so they’re 100% recycled. This is the second generation of Bee Cards and they’re thicker than the originals and thicker than a credit card. This means the stores of sugar solution are deeper and it preserves the sugar solution better.
This innovative card contains three cells of sugar syrup hidden behind two layers of specially designed stickers to peel back on finding an exhausted bee. The syrup used has been designed for beekeepers and is a tackier consistency than the sugar solution that is typically made with sugar and water for a teaspoon. The card is credit card sized and embossed to create three hexagonal cells. Each cell contains just enough sugar syrup to revive an exhausted bee.

Bees have very fast metabolisms and can only fly for so long between flowers before it runs out of fuel. It’s common to come across exhausted bees on the ground in cities! Now bees like humans shouldn’t live on sugar, but a tiny drop of sugar solution if there are no flowers around is okay to revive an exhausted bee and see it on its way.
If you see an exhausted bee when you have a Bee Saviour Card in your wallet or purse, simply take out your card, peel back the sticker to reveal the sugar solution and place the card on the ground next to the bee. If the bee needs some energy it will wander onto the card and feed before flying off. You can then pick up your card, replace the sticker to cover the remaining sugar solution and its ready for the next bee.
